For those we have loved and lost....
One of the hardest things about loving an animal is the sad reality that we generally outlive our best friends with four legs. We know that they have lived great lives full of love and companionship, but we still miss them, for no other love is as simple and as honest as the love we receive from our pets.

I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?
